Competition
James Dyson Award 2027
James Dyson Foundation
Summary
An international design engineering competition for students and recent graduates who have invented something that solves a problem.
About
The James Dyson Award is an international design award that celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of design engineers. The brief is deliberately simple: design something that solves a problem. Entries are judged on the problem identified, the design process, and the commercial viability and sustainability of the solution. Rough-and-ready prototypes are judged just as seriously as mass-market-ready samples. The competition runs in stages: National Winners and Runners-up are announced first, then an International Top 20 shortlist is selected, and finally James Dyson personally selects the International Winner, the Sustainability Winner and the Medical Science Winner. The 2026 edition opened for submissions on 11 March 2026 and has now closed, with National Winners announced on 9 September 2026. The 2027 edition typically opens in March — register on the site to be notified.
